Lab Ranges

To understand where the lab value falls within the range it is helpful to know how the lab value is set in the first place.

Most lab values are set by selecting samples from the lab at a certain time, eliminating samples with known confounding factors and then doing a statistical analysis.

Most values will fall within 2 standard deviations (2-σ) of the mean, equating to 95% of the samples in a healthy population. Values outside that range could be caused by confounding factors, disease states or lab errors, and around 1 in 20 will actually be normal (just statistically).
